Greg Bear

Born in 1951, Greg Bear spent his childhood traveling and writing. His father was a naval man and took his family to stations in Japan, Alaska, and the Philippines.
An early reader of Tom Swift books, Robert Heinlein, and Ray Bradbury, Bear developed an affinity for science fiction that would last him a lifetime. He even married into science fiction--his father-in-law is Poul Anderson.

Bear finished his first story at age 10 and began submitting to magazines two years later. At age 15, he sold his first short story to a science fiction magazine. By age 23, he was making frequent sales of his short stories and eventually became a science fiction novelist.

A writer of "hard" science fiction, Bear's works have been nominated for Hugos and Nebulas, and have won those awards seven different times-including for his Star Wars novelization, Rogue Planet. The second Twilight Zone show was an adaptation of his short story, Dead Run.
