Michael Bishop
also writes as Philip Lawson
Born in Nebraska in 1945, Michael Bishop bounced about the globe as the child of an Air Force airman-even spending a year in Japan when he was five.
Even his earliest memories have contributed to the pages of books he's written. While he is most commonly classified as a science fiction writer, he also places himself in genres such as fantasy, speculative fiction, mysteries, magic realism, historical narratives, satire, parables, and gothic.
Bishop attended the University of Georgia, eventually earning a master's degree in English. He then taught English at the Air Force Academy and the University of Georgia for several years while he began to sell fiction to science fiction magazines.
Bishop has won two Nebula awards and been nominated numerous times for Hugos, Nebulas, and World Fantasy awards.
His most recent books have been published under the name Philip Lawson.
