Joe Haldeman
Joe Haldeman, a well-decorated science fiction writer, has never lost his love for travel. Perhaps that's because after being born in Oklahoma, he spent his childhood years in Puerto Rico, New Orleans, Washington D.C. and Alaska. After officially growing up, he continued to travel the world, frequently as a guest at international writer's conventions. Even now he splits his time between homes in Florida and Massachusetts.
After being drafted and serving a tour in Vietnam, Haldeman's wife, Gay, agreed to support him for two years on her teacher's salary while he pursued a writing career. It was an investment that paid off as he soon produced The Forever War and his place in science fiction history was secured.
A professor at MIT, Haldeman's books have garnered him such awards as the Hugo, the Nebula, Ditmar, Galaxy, Rhysling, World Fantasy, and John W. Campbell Award.
