Harry Harrison
Harry Harrison, creator of The Stainless Steel Rat and several other series,
first became infatuated with science fiction as a teenager, his first letter
getting published in a fanzine at age 13. Harrison took a circuitous route to
the role of famed science fiction writer, beginning with being drafted into World
War II. He first attended art school and then went on to create comics and illustrations.
From there he began writing, with his first short story being published in 1951.
From there, he began a writing career that would span 50 years, creating many popular works in the science fiction and action genres. He also created many popular alternate history stories. Harrison has written and edited works under the following names: Hank Dempsey, Felix Boyd, Wade Kaempfert, Cameron Hall, Philip St. John, and Leslie Charteris.
