Anne McCaffrey
Born on April Fool's Day in 1926, Anne McCaffrey has built an ever-expanding fan base with each new book. Best known as the creator of Pern, she is a storyteller who creates broad, imaginative worlds while handling a variety of themes.
Her first novel was written as a protest against how women were portrayed in science fiction novels in the 50s and early 60s. Since then, her books have frequently hit the bestseller lists and she has one of the best-known names in the genre.
A native of Cambridge, Massachusetts, she moved to Ireland in the 70s where she lives in a house that she designed-Dragonhold-Underhill.
