The Hugo Awards recognize the best in science fiction-whether it is literature, dramatic presentation, magazines, or editing. They are named after Hugo Gernsback.
The Hugo Awards are given out at the World Science Fiction Society's annual convention.
Current award categories are novel, novella, novelette, short story, related book/non-fiction, dramatic presentation, professional editor, professional artist, Semiprozine, Fanzine, Fan Writer, Fan Artist, Campbell Award, and Special Award. Throughout the years there has been recognition for categories ranging from book reviewer to publisher to fan personalities.
The winners are determined by ballot, with members of the convention casting the votes.
